April 2002 Dream Weavers Newsletter

News from our Meeting: Apr 6, 2002

The April 2002 meeting of the Dream Weavers was held at the Mt. Scott Masonic Center in Lents hosted by the Mt. Scott Chapter whose members served a great luncheon.

Treasurers report indicated a balance of forward of $4,581.64. There were deposits totaling $1,468 and bills paid totaling $100.00 for an ending balance of $5,949.64.

Sickness and Cheer:
Sister Patt sent cards to Sister Susan Stevens who has had surgery on her foot. Sister Penny reported that Sister Linda Bergmann will be having more chemo and may have surgery before Grand Chapter. Sister Ann Corum of Blue River has lost her husband - Sister Bettelinn Ferris having good and bad days.

Unfinished Business:
Our next meeting will be in Mulino at Orchid Chapter on May 11 with reservations due to Sister Twila by May 6. The new Grand Family will be there. Consensus was reached that we will come to our May luncheon in work clothes and make rocks that day. The glue will wash out and we can use the parking lot at Orchid Chapter as our work site and storage place. Sister Donna reported that we have enough boxes for now. We are also reminded that the StarDusters need our help after the banquet on Sunday nite and we can change back into our work clothes.

Ways and Means:
Sister Patti reported that we will need a chair for the Table after Grand Chapter. The jewelry is now on display and we sold $189.50 in jewelry today. Sister Marcia reported the Dream Weavers will set up their table at the Junction City Quilt Show. We have made $130 the first day and will have more to report next month.

We are reminded and begged and pleaded with to get items in for the scrapbooks to Sister Miriam Mepham. Please make every effort to gather materials we don't want skinny books for our Grand Officers.

Sister Alvera Becker will be the new WM for Temple Chapter and will become a Dream Weaver as a result.

Brother Mac reported that in addition to the Kale fund's $ 2500 CD, he has more cans and pennies (1,100 cans in bags). He welcomes your pennies and/or your cans and will add the $46.50 given by Sister Merri who won the 50/50 today. We have made $15 interest on the CD.

Sister Barbara Folck reported on the All-Member banquet with the theme selected by Sister Darlene is "God and Country - Red, White and Blue". She has $1,860 for banquet tickets - we have 102 reservations - those who wish to host/hostess tables for the banquet please sign up. Gifts for distinguished guests have been ordered - windchimes - approx. $2.50 each.

Sister Penny announced that the Dream Weaver summer picnic will be August 4 on the beach in conjunction with the school of instruction for new Grand officers. Sister Dora Daniels and Sister Linda Bergman will chair the committee as their chapters will facilitate school of instruction. The committee was announced as Twyla, Patt, Arlene & Karen McClain

Remember to get installations on the list. A final copy will be available at Grand Chapter.

Sister Terry reported on the Super 8 motel in Pendleton - if you made reservations last year before you left, you need to re-reserve. The motel is under new management and in addition to re-reserving, you need to send the paper work to the Chairman of Housing. We have enough $$ to order 12 headsets - Sam will order them today - fits on the ear and won't give you a headache - handset in the pockets - mouthpiece - will be multi-channel. We will use ten and keep two in reserve. There will also be a wired Page in the East to facilitate communication. The "truck" will be unloaded Saturday at 8 a.m. right after the StarDuster kick-off breakfast. Any help will be appreciated.

Next year we will have the new meeting rooms in Pendleton Sister Terry has the blueprints and reports that the Convention Center staff have let all contracts. The day we leave, the contractors will begin to work. They held off building until our 2002 Session is over. Decorations are going well, housing is okay, new carpeting is ordered. She will continue to update us. Banquet set-up begins at 2:45 Sunday and doors open at 5 pm for seating. We should be there by 2:30 Sunday to help and bring our evening wear with us as there will not be enough time to get to motels and back before the banquet.

Brother Harry reported that we are now referring to the helicopter insignias as "Ladies' pins and men's tux savers". We also have a fresh supply of tail-light decals. People who work Coffee Stops should keep a supply of tail-light decals as visitors stopping by often see the decals and want to purchase some.

Sister Merri will be getting fraternal jewelry on consignment - she had a sign-up sheet for any special orders for use in installations or as officer gifts, etc.

The Nominating committee will report in May.

New Business:
Sister Diane reminded us that last year we gave gifts to Dream Weavers who were Grand Officers. Brother Mac moved and Diane seconded that gifts at $25 be given this year. Motion carried. She also reported that Sister Marian Mepham will chair the gifts committee next year.

Sister Patti reminded that we need ideas for additional table items.

Good of the Order:
Brother Dave asked Sister Diane to make a presentation to Brother Harry on behalf of his birthday plus donations to the KALE fund on their behalf. Brother Harry read a piece on Teamwork - Love puts the beauty in everyday things. Sister Penny thanked us for our gifts and reminded us to get the plaid shoulder pieces. We need to do something about the Ways & Means Table for this next year - there will be more sizeable expenses. We need all of the help we can get. Don't assume someone else will do it. Remember the Comfort Quilts! Brother Mac won the quilt at his honor night at Newberg and donated the quilt to Sister Linda Bergman as the first Comfort Quilt. We now have a prototype of a card to be given with the quilts to other cancer patients. We are reminded that quilts should be approximately twin size, but smaller or larger sizes can be used.

Sister Penny invited all to come to Orchid Chapter and we'll have a work party next month. She reminded us to keep visiting.

Discussion was held about meeting on Tuesday nite during Grand Chapter. Sister Tanna will investigate. We can always gather in the parking lot - there will be three Dream Weaver vehicles there.

Respectfully submitted,
Lyn Horine
Recording Secretary
